And She Will See the Sun



The sun will rise each day. That is a universally known fact. In the east, the sun peeks over the horizon, its brightening rays reaching out like arms stretching in the early hours of the morning. Throughout the day, the sun spreads its warmth over the earth until finally, its time has come to an end. With a wonderful spectrum of color splashed across the sky, the sun retreats back behind the hills in the distance, bowing out before its upcoming performance again the next day.


He watched the sun’s course of action every day. Most take advantage of such a feat, but to him, it is the sun that keeps his precious specimens alive and well, able to continue their daily lives with no care in the world. It was uncommon for him to attach himself so wholeheartedly to any particular human, especially with any feelings of affection. There was a black hole where his heart had once been, nothing but manipulation and amusement being able fill the void that he'd hardly even noticed had emerged.


So when he had noticed you for the first time, it was confusing and conflicting, as he did not recognize this unsettling feeling that would one day blossom into such a dedicated and consuming passion that seemed almost unhealthy.


He was determined to know everything about you.

From the most mundane to the most sentimental things. He treasured every little fact he picked up about you; not once did a subtle hint go unnoticed.


Piercing crimson eyes watched you with a gaze of longing that only you had the privilege of receiving. Your name left a tingling sensation on his lips when he spoke it and your beauty stopped him in his tracks as he spotted you in a crowd. He watched you carry out your average endeavors to the point of obsession. It wasn’t out of the ordinary for him to people watch, or even stalk, but this meant something completely different than his usual schemes.


This was pure infatuation.


He noticed you out one night with a couple friends, enjoying your youth at an open party. It was midnight and you were saying your goodbyes, that gorgeous smile lighting up your face in the dark of the night.


However, one glance to the left brought his attention to a group of men, laughing hysterically, stumbling over their own feet like newborn calves. It wasn’t hard to tell they had been drinking. Horror flashed in front of his eyes as he watched their smug grins while they sauntered over towards you.


You refused the obvious proposal. Over and over and over. He could see the drunken anger surging in the faces of the offenders as they pulled a gun from the concealed pocket of their jacket.


BANG


You screamed.


Stains of red.


Pain overtaking his chest.


He would never see his precious human ever again.


But he would give anything,


Even his life,


To make sure you could see the sun rise again.
